Spam. J.M.G. Le Clézio’s ‘Petite Madeleine’? Beitrag Keith Moser Germanisch-Romanische Monatsschrift, Jahrgang 66 (2016), Ausgabe 2, Seite 187 - 197 The purpose of this intertextual study is to examine a common thread that exists between Marcel Proust and J.M.G. Le Clézio. Specifically, this investigation delves into the enigmatic ecstasy that pervades the ‚petites madeleines‘ episode and the mysterious euphoria experienced by the Leclézian narrator of the prologue to ‚Ritournelle de la faim‘. Although these texts initially appear to be quite dissimilar from both a stylistic and thematic perspective, the intense and ephemeral moments of elation depicted by both narrators highlight a pantheistic worldview regarding the importance of sensorial encounters, the role of involuntary memory, the force of habit, the path to spirituality, and the notion of cosmic time.
