Collaborative translation projects in contemporary literature are developing ever new creative potentials. Collectively combining multiple instances of translation creates a third space in between the original text and its translation: from it, polyphony emerges. Crucial here is that the translation is not merely performed or presented collaboratively, but that multivalent approaches are explicitly marked within the collaborative translation itself – provoking reflection on or highlighting the translation process as such for both the translators and the readers. This paper outlines the role that such explicit marking plays in collaborative translation, using examples of select collaborative translation projects involving German writer Uljana Wolf and the mono- and multilingual polyphonies they foster.
