Under the masculine form of her mother’s maiden name, Nina de Villard (1843–1884) published 30 poems in Arsène Houssaye’s journal ‚L’Artiste‘. These poems are the key to more of her hitherto largely unknown writings, composed between 1865 and 1870. The poems in particular make it clear why her salon became famous in literary history as the “Boudoir du Parnasse” and what influence she exerted on important poets of French modernism such as Mallarmé, Verlaine, Cros and Nouveau. The real ‚fêtes galants‘ were celebrated in her salon. Her poems inspired Cros to write poetry; Verlaine shows them in 18th century décor and Nouveau especially in oriental garb. As an appendix to my reflections, these poems appear here for the first time after more than 150 years – complete and with the name of their author.
