Heinrich Mann was a leading European intellectual in the first half of the twentieth century who consistently opposed National Socialism and the war and who fought for democracy, German-French reconciliation, and a united Europe. His essays and articles, written between 1889 and 1950, offer a valuable contribution to contemporary discourses. They have been collected in an exemplary and exhaustive edition with commentaries, the first volumes of which appeared in 2009. The final volumes of this seminal edition are in preparation.
