Factual Narrative: A Missing Narratological Paradigm

Monika Fludernik

Seiten 117 - 134

What are the problems that factual narrative presents to a narratological analysis? Can the classical narratological paradigms be profitably employed or does one need an entirely new model of factual narratology? The essay tries to provide some answers to these questions by, firstly, looking at the reasons for narratology’s neglect of factual narration; secondly, summarizing previous insights into the narratologically relevant facets of factual narratives; and, thirdly, by sketching a number of features that a factual narratology would have to take into account.
